Sybil J. B. van Dijs brings grace and distinction through her extensive knowledge of traditional design from her years studying interior design disciplines in the eastern U.S. Now, she also brings a fresh approach to the crisp and innovative style that is known as Southern California contemporary. Artistically trained with her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design as well as studies in dance at Florida State University, her creativity draws from both of her passions – functional, practical solutions which fluidly join, room by room, into a well choreographed, cohesive whole. The results are breathtaking, captivating, original design.
No stranger to large site design and project management, Sybil’s recent successes include a 58,000 sq. ft. private building of suites in Beverly Hills, more than 40 luxury suites, guestrooms and the adjoining pool and outdoor terraces at the Hotel Bel-Air, where her custom-designed furnishings grace those exterior spaces. Additionally, she recently recreated a 22,000 sq. ft. private recreation venue in West Los Angeles and a 56,000 sq. ft. private residence in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
In addition to her busy interior design firm SJvD Design, Sybil actively participates in the design community, both as mentor and leader. In 2005-2006, she served as the President of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Los Angeles Chapter. Her credentials include NCIDQ Certification, CID and ASID. Through her role of design leader, she demonstrates a dedication to our futures – with holistic educational programs for young designers. Throughout her projects she incorporates sustainability, a gifted knowledge of color, balance and texture which positively influence “built” environments in which young and old can flourish. Her contributions also include proactive legislative efforts to better define interior designers’ roles as practitioners of improved quality of life, safety and health in these environments – as revealed throughout her own prominent works, both locally and internationally.
