Designer Profile

Susan Corry, ASID, CID, is the founder and principal of Susan Corry Design, a full-service interior design firm. After graduating from Duke University, Susan spent nine years in corporate communications before deciding to pursue her passion for design. She graduated from the design program at UC Berkeley Extension and voluntarily passed the highest state and national exams offered to interior designers. As a result, she is a professional member of ASID and a Certified Interior Designer in the state of California (#6073).

Before establishing Susan Corry Design in the Bay Area in 2002, Susan was a kitchen designer for Studio Becker—one of the finest custom cabinetry lines in the world. Prior to that, she worked for Barbara Beckmann who is known for her exquisite, hand-painted fabrics. In 2005, after moving with her family to Sherman Oaks, she re-established SCD. Today, Susan focuses on residential and commercial projects in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. She is also active in the Los Angeles chapter of ASID.

Services Offered

Susan enjoys working on residential and commercial projects of all sizes. To best accommodate a variety of client needs, SCD offers three types of service:

1. Full-Service Design is for clients who want SCD to remain actively involved throughout the project. SCD will work with you to establish a design concept; research building codes, manage budgets and schedules, work with other industry professionals, and furnish the space with custom finishes, furniture, window treatments and accessories.

2. Conceptual Design is for clients who prefer to do much of the legwork themselves. SCD will develop a furniture plan and color scheme and suggest furnishings that reflect your style. You can then furnish the space on your own—as your schedule and budget permit.

3. Hourly Consultations are perfect when you need help with only a few design issues. Examples include shopping for furnishings, selecting paint colors, and space planning for homes and offices.

Please call or email to set up an initial consultation; I look forward to learning more about your project.

SCD created a cohesive yet whimsical look for this modern, ranch-style home. New window treatments, side tables and the shag rug add playful touches to the family room’s neutral palette. The commissioned artwork is made of Paint-by-Number images of farm scenes that remind the client of her Midwestern childhood.
The design for this contemporary master bedroom is equal parts glamour and serenity. Classic pieces mix gracefully with modern furnishings, while Asian accents add a splash of color to the otherwise monochromatic retreat.
This lacquered writing desk is both Asian and modern in its design. The desk chair picks up the red accents found elsewhere in the room, while a faux crocodile embossed lamp adds a bit of texture.
In the family room, a comfortable sectional sofa and coffee table/ottoman replace furniture from the clients’ law school days. Bold artwork and a whimsical lamp enliven the room. Wool carpet adds a touch of sophistication underfoot.
In the kitchen of this multi-million dollar home, white-lacquered custom cabinetry extends up to the 14-foot high ceiling, creating a dramatic yet airy space. Appliances are top-of-the-line, and the kitchen is filled with every modern convenience. Nestled into the hillside of exclusive Belvedere Island, the home boasts views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Susan designed this kitchen during her tenure at Studio Becker.

With their exposed legs, the contemporary chair and sofa offer comfortable seating without “weighing down” the room. The bold painting above the fireplace adds a shot of color and helps to bring the outdoors in.
The goal for this home was to blend the owner’s mix of old and new styles. A traditional wool rug anchors the family room and contrasts nicely with modern elements like the steel and glass coffee table. The result is a space that is both warm and inviting.
Dining furniture inherited from the owner’s grandmother complements the Asian vase, which sits atop an antique drafting stool.
